Work can be very stressful as well as rewarding. I will share some tips and tricks on how to remain sane at a stressful work environment. Yes I know you will think that you don’t have time but trust me, you NEED to make time. I have made that mistake for a long time thinking I do not have time and that I need to finish so much work. More I grow old more I realize that health is the most important thing. Sitting in 1 place for prolonged period of time is harmful but this can be minimized by taking small 5 mins break for the sake of taking break, or for tea, or for chit chat every now and then. So lets get started….
Listen to music
If your work place allows, listen to music. Music will not only make you happy but it will also help you cut out noise and distraction making you more productive. Make a play list on your phone or use free apps like Pandora.
Talking to other people will refresh your mind. It will not only refresh you but it will also grow your network. If possible, make friends from other departments, it will give you a break from people you work with all the time. This will give you a sense of relief.
I know you are busy and it might sound silly but trust me (I work in a very stressful environment), you need to make time to take a break every now and then. Work is never going to finish. It is very harmful for your health to keep sitting at one place for prolonged period of time. Get up go for a tea break, or have some refreshing water, or go chat with someone every now and then.
Drink tea or water frequently as they are healthy and will keep you energized. Make some yummy snack to eat in the afternoon. It will give you something to look forward to.
Eat in kitchen
I know it is tempting to eat at your desk so that you can multi task and finish some work while you eat. Try not to eat at your desk as it is very unhealthy. You do not need to spend a ton of time eating, you can put aside 15 or 20 mins to eat in peace. Have presence of mind while you eat and enjoy your food.
Yes walk! I know you are thinking how can I get time to go for a walk when I have so much work to do! That’s what I used to think and work kept piling on me. Now I make time for my walk everyday and when I come back to my desk I’m more energetic and attentive. I’m able to focus easily which makes me more productive.
Learn to say NO! If you never say no, chances are all the extra work keeps coming to your desk. This is a normal phenomenon that happens in every office. I used to be that person and I had my share of suffering. I have learnt from my mistakes and I have learnt to say no when I know I have more than enough on my plate. Every time you say Yes to a task, you are saying no to another as there is only 24 hrs in a day and you are just prioritizing.
